Did Someone Say "Cinco de Mayo"?

Like everyone else here on the Northcoast, I am happily watching the trees leaf, the flowers blossom, and the warm weather finally arriving.  Cinco de Mayo, (translated from Spanish to English - 5th of May) is a perfect day for celebration!

Many people believe that Cinco de Mayo is the "Mexican Independence Day", but in fact, it is not.  Cinco de Mayo was first celebrated in Puebla to commemorate the Mexican Army's defeat over the French Army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

Like most holidays celebrated in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has lost it's original meaning and has become yet another commercialized event.  Those things aside, Cinco de Mayo is a day for honoring and celebrating all things Mexican including heritage, culture, and food.

Whatever you're doing today, I hope you find cause to "Celebrate, LOVE, and Create"!   Feliz Cinco de Mayo, amigas y amigos!  Now pass me the salsa, please.

  1. great fun page Angelia. Mexican is one of my favourite foods. Shame that so many significant ways are overtaking by commercial marketing
