Monday's Muse

Embrace All That You Are

As I worked on this journal page I began questioning the colors I was using.  I questioned the gray tones, because after all, they weren't the bright, bold colors that are associated with my work.  I questioned where my color choices were coming from, and I questioned why I was feeling so uncomfortable using them.

Sometimes the smallest questions unveil the most significant insights.  I realized that I use bright, bold colors not just because I'm drawn to them, but because it's also what's expected from me.  Isn't it enough that society strives to place us into a tidy category?  We do the same thing to ourselves.

What I came to realize is that we're evolving creatures.  Just as a floral bush changes over a season, so do we.  With every new thought or experience that happens, we change a little.  Maybe not so much that we notice, but we change none the less.

Holding on to something that doesn't feel right is senseless. It's like a floral bush trying to hold on to a blossom that has faded and withered away.  We need to embrace our ever-evolving selves, and we need to embrace all that we are.  Sometimes, that might even mean changing a color palette.

CELEBRATE * LOVE * CREATE

  4. Change is always a good thing when it comes to art journaling. Most people find they can't come up with fresh and colorful ideas.
    I like it.

  5. I thought that was so beautfil Angelia, thank you so much! I loved your use of color, something I have had such problems with. I can't seem to get those colors down of my first layer to look half way decent. and I'm starting to get a gunch of pages with a lot of layers and nothing else! It's driving me bonkers! What do I do to get everything to come together to make something that looks like something?!?

    Blessings,

    Peggy

    1. Thanks, Peggy! I'll have to address the color/background issues you asked about. It's difficult to answer your questions without seeing some of your work. If you'd like to email me a link to some of your images, I'd be happy to offer suggestions!

  6. This is soooo beautiful again. They might be different colours, but your style is immediately recognizable. You're right not to hold on to something that doesn't feel right only because it's expected from you. Just keep doing what you feel like, it's gorgeous either way.
