Embrace All That You Are
As I worked on this journal page I began questioning the colors I was using. I questioned the gray tones, because after all, they weren't the bright, bold colors that are associated with my work. I questioned where my color choices were coming from, and I questioned why I was feeling so uncomfortable using them.
Sometimes the smallest questions unveil the most significant insights. I realized that I use bright, bold colors not just because I'm drawn to them, but because it's also what's expected from me. Isn't it enough that society strives to place us into a tidy category? We do the same thing to ourselves.
What I came to realize is that we're evolving creatures. Just as a floral bush changes over a season, so do we. With every new thought or experience that happens, we change a little. Maybe not so much that we notice, but we change none the less.
Holding on to something that doesn't feel right is senseless. It's like a floral bush trying to hold on to a blossom that has faded and withered away. We need to embrace our ever-evolving selves, and we need to embrace all that we are. Sometimes, that might even mean changing a color palette.
